Nothing is established for eternity in this world, and all that you can count on is what is renewed and struggled for every day." — B. Traven

The Artful Dewdney: New Light on the Sketchy Character of the Honourable Edgar Dewdney

For 150 years we assumed Dewdney was a sliver-spoon snob and card-carrying member of the English ruling elite. Turns out he was more Artful Dodger than pedigreed English gentleman. This article presents some of my archival discoveries in support of a radically new narrative on the true origins of Edgar Dewdney. In the Edmonton Journal, Brian Titley (author of The Frontier World of Edgar Dewdney) says: "I am delighted to read articles like this, since it shows that history is always a work in progress and is subject to constant revision and reinterpretation." The Artful Dewdney appears in the journal British Columbia History. I'm currently working on (and re-working) a biography of Dewdney..
